Season 2025/256 has begun and it's a great time to start your focus on building fitness and strength in preparation for the racing season that begins in September 2025.
This is the perfect time to try Dragon Boating to not only build your fitness but refine the technique, and create new friendships.

Summer Training
During the race season (September to April), SADA trains up to three times a week at Aquatic Reserve, Bower Road, West Lakes.   Training sessions are approximately two hours in total, including warm-up, boat loading, training itself, cool-down and storing of the boats. Actual time on the water is approximately one hour.    Often members get together after training for a coffee or a meal. A great opportunity to to get to know each other a little better.

Winter Training (Optional)
Some of our club members choose to continue to train through the winter off-season, meeting on Tuesday evening.  For many members this is a favourite time of the year to train as the waters are generally calm & we paddle under the stars, not the rain!!!
This time of the year is a great time to come out and give paddling a go as we practice our technique while continuing to maintain some fitness.

Training Gear
This is a water sport where fashion is not a concern but safety and comfort are.
  • rash shirt or T-shirt, shorts, leggings or 3/4 pants,
  • waterproof shoes (Crocs or boat shoes),
  • sunglasses, water bottle,
  • hat, sunscreen
  • a pair of non-slip gloves (fingerless cycling gloves work well)
  • paddles are available to borrow for training sessions, as are life jackets which must be worn at training.
Racing & Regattas
This is where the grit and determination really kicks in!  We enjoy the competition and always give it a red hot go as we power down the lanes.  Medals are the best and we love to celebrate after a great day of racing.
